Spencer Adams

WISE, Va. - Spencer Greenfield Adams, 75, went home to be with the Lord on Monday (Oct. 27, 2003) at his home.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force, worked at the Wise Hospital for several years, was a manager for several different Payless Stores for several years, and worked for the U.S. Forestry Division for 14 years until the Lord called him home.
He loved the Lord and knew him as his personal Savior and was of the Pentecostal faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Taylor and Dicy Roberts Adams; three sisters, infant Peggy Jo Adams, Lenore Kilgore and Virginia Franklin; one brother, James Taylor Adams Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Charlotte Adams; and a very special pet Birman cat that he lovingly named "Babys Adams;" six sons, Jimmy Adams of Kansas City, Mo., Mark Adams of Wise, Va., twins, Brent Adams of Newport, Tenn., and Kent Adams of Wise, Va., Spencer Todd Adams of Wise, Va., and Billy R. Shuler Jr. of Denton, N.C.; four daughters, Pam Adams of Wise, Va., Caroline Litton of Woodway, Va., Janice Gray of Lexington, N.C., and Paula Collins of Wise, Va.; 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Naomia Mullins of Wise, Va., and Eva Pegram of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one brother, Simpson Adams of Ohio.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, Va.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Cliff Bowman officiating.
Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton, Va., with military graveside rites being conducted by the Norton VFW Post. 4301.
