EFFINGHAM – John Arthur “Art” Tuley, 88, of Effingham, passed away Thursday,
February 23, 2006 at the Jackson County Nursing Home in Holton.
He was born January 8, 1918 at Huron, the son of Alfred and Sarah “Sadie” Tuley.
He was a 1936 graduate of ACCHS. He farmed near the Arrington and Huron communities before moving to Effingham in 1957. He worked for the high school and then later in the “caves” in Atchison for Page Airways and Day & Zimmerman. He also worked as a skilled carpenter and used those skills in support of many projects in the Effingham community. He was an avid outdoorsman.
He married Agnes H. Rafaelson on March 22, 1942. She preceded him in death January 2, 2005. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Etta Williams and one granddaughter, Christy Tuley.
Arthur is survived by his children, Sara Tuley Piland and husband, Lowell, Bennett, CO, Dean Tuley and wife, Peggy, Holton, and Janet Tuley Snyder and husband, Craig, Topeka; six grandchildren, Kristen Piland Kellogg, and Kimberly Piland, both of Denver, Taige Tuley Gilliland, Indianapolis, Taren Tuley, Omaha, Corey Snyder, Atlanta, and Nathan Snyder, Suriname, South America; a great granddaughter, Tuley Grace Gilliland, and a sister, Helen Money, Fergus Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 27th at the Effingham Union Church. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery at Effingham. Mr. Tuley will lie in state Sunday and until 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Holton, and from noon until service time at the church.
