Abiel Elwell was born in Dudley,Massachusetts on May 16,1781.He was the son of Revolutionary War Patriot,Lieut Mark Elwell and his wife,the widow, Dorothy(Lamb)White.Abiel was named after his maternal grand father,Abiel Lamb Sr(1708-1803)of Oxford,Massachusetts.
On Sept 5,1799,Abiel Elwell's father,Lieut Mark Elwell, in his last will and testimate, made,Abiel executor of his estate.Abiel was also made the sole benifactor of his fathers estate upon the death of his mother,Dolly Elwell.
In Dudley, Massachusetts on April 15,1801,Abiel married Rachel Foster.Rachel was the daughter of Revolutionary War Patriot,Ensign Timothy Foster and his wife,Rachel Robinson also of Dudley, Massachusetts .
Abiel and Rachel had the following eight children all born in Dudley,Massachusetts.
