This is the grave of Hester "Esther" OVERACKER, the widow of Dr. Joseph Witter. Esther was born circa 1794 in New York to Revolutionary War veteran Adam Overacker and his first wife, Cornelia VAN DER COOK (my 4th great grand aunt). She married Dr. Witter 26 January, 1820 in Cuyahoga CO., OH. The couple had four children...including Sarah "Sally" Witter SPENCER SANDERS.
Sally and her second husband, William E. Sanders, resided in Leroy Twp., Mower Co., MN. Dr. Joseph Witter died in 1845 in Boone Co., IL. My guess is that Esther spent her last years living with her daughter and son-in-law. It is possible that they, too, are buried in Leroy Cemetery, but for some reason lack headstones. William Sanders' first wife, Cynthia Sanders (1835-1873) and James P. (1860-1888), a son of this marriage, are both buried in this cemetery. Esther would have been approximately 79 years old at the time of her death.
