Adam Overacker was a son of Michael and Anna Barbara (Stober/Stover) Overacker. Michael Overacker served as a member of the Schagticoke Committee of Correspondence during the Revolutionary War.

Adam Overacker fought in the 14th Regiment of Albany Co. Militia ("Colonel Peter Yates' Regiment") in the Revolutionary War. He is listed in Sue I. Silliman's registry of Revolutionary War soldiers buried in Michigan as Adam Overrocker.

According to one of his descendants, Donna Overacker Lexcen, Adam married Cornelia VanDerCook on 1 May, 1781 at the Schagticoke Reformed Dutch Church. Also according to Mrs. Lexcen, Adam and Cornelia had eleven children. However, careful research has thus far turned up only eight. They were: Barbara Ann (1782-1846, married Amasa GAGE), Michael (1785-1833, married Lucinda BRIGGS), Martinus (1787-?), Eva (1790-after 1850, married William STOW), Catherine (1796-1851, married Henry A. FRANCISCO), Sarah (1800-1875, married Moses METCALF), Esther (circa 1802, married Dr. Joseph WITTER)and Anthony Michael (circa 1805-1864, married Charity FRANCISCO).

According to Mrs. Lexcen, Cornelia died somewhere around 1810 in Cuyahoga County, OH. However, other family members have reported that she died somewhere in Western New York. Since we know that she was born 9 July, 1761, it can be calculated that she passed away somewhere around the age of 49.

Recent records have come to light that indicate that Adam married 2. Chloe CANFIELD Burke, widow of Joseph Burke, in 1826 in Cuyahoga Co., OH. They had been married for only about seven years when she died either in Washtenaw Co. or Grass Lake, MI. (No gravesite has yet been located for her.) No issue resulted from this marriage.

Adam Overacker then married 3. Patience HARRINGTON Adams, another widow, on 27 July, 1833 in LaSalle Twp., Monroe Co., MI. There was no issue from this marriage and they remained married until Adam's death. Patience lived out the rest of her life with a son, Samuel Adams, dying 29 August, 1872 at the age of 98.

Adam Overacker shares a large granite marker in the East Grass Lake Cemetery with his daughter, Catherine and her husband, Henry A. Francisco. Catherine and Henry were first cousins to each other. Henry's mother, Hester VanDerCook and Catherine's mother, Cornelia VanDerCook, were sisters.

The Sarah Treat Prudden Chapter, DAR recorded the marked burials in the East Grass Lake Cemetery circa 1929 and the interments for these three people were not included in that survey. Thus, they had to have been unmarked at the time and the current marker had to have been placed after that year. His year of birth appears to be incorrectly inscribed on the monument.

On Saturday, October 5th, 2019, the Sarah Treat Prudden Chapter , DAR dedicated a bronze plaque honoring Private Adam Overacker for his service in the formation of the United States of America.
