His name is misspelled as "Furgerson" on the plaque at Alton, as it was spelled that way in one of his military records.

Youngest son of Elizabeth Armstrong Ferguson and William H. Ferguson.

Enlisted March 1862 in Company D, 35th Mississippi.
Captured at Water Valley, Mississippi.
Imprisoned at Alton where he died of variola when he was only seventeen years old.

His two brothers, James D and William Henderson, also served in the CSA.

James served in the 5th Mississippi. He was wounded at the Battle of Franklin on 30 November 1864 and died the next day. He is buried in the McGavock Confederate Cemetery, Carnton Plantation, Franklin, Tennessee.

William served in the 11th Mississippi. He was wounded and captured at Gettysburg on 3 July 1863 and wounded and captured at The Wilderness on 5 May 1864. He survived the War, moved to Texas, married Mary Ellen Duty and fathered eleven known children. He is buried in Wood Cemetery, Webberville, Travis County, Texas.

Marion also had four sisters: Eugenia, Cornelia, Angelina and Winston. Sister Eugenia Ferguson Woodruff's first husband, Henry Woodruff, served in the 5th Mississippi. He died at Mobile, Alabama during the War.
