Loy J. Wood, 90, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was born November 24, 1919, in Clearfield, Utah to Loy and Nancy Barlow Wood. He grew up in Clearfield and graduated from Davis High School. He attended Weber State College for 2 years. Loy was the first student to receive his pilots license from Weber State College Aviation program. He joined the military, service in 1942 and served in the US Air Force for 31 years. While serving in the military he traveled throughout the United States, Europe and Asia with his family. He served in the World War II and the Vietnam conflict. He married Elaine McEntire October 16, 1943, they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving many church callings, including the Bishopric and High Council in the United States and overseas. Loy retired from the service in 1972 and worked an additional ten years at Hill AFB. He enjoyed all sports, especially golf. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling and outdoor activities. His happiest times were spent with his family.

Surviving is his wife, one brother, his children; 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents, two sisters, Athelene Weatherston, June Johnson and one brother, Gordon Wood. Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 19, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

He retired from the Air force as a Chief Master Sargent after postings in Japan, Germany, England and the US.
