MRS. KATHERINE KROEGER
Mrs. Katherine Kroeger, in the 82nd year of her age, widow of Bernard Kroeger who died 24 years ago on the 2nd of this month, died Sunday morning about 5:20 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Zewe, 219 Peter street, following a brief illness superinduced by the infirmities of old age. Mrs. Kroeger was a highly respected woman and had resided in Duquesne for a period of 21 years, making her home with a son, Alderman William Kroeger, 32 North First street. She was able to be about until very recently and was a remarkably alert lady for her years. She was stricken Thursday at the home of her daughter and grew gradually worse until death released her earthly bondage Sunday morning.
The deceased was born in Alsace Lorraine, France, on May 2, 1846, and at the age of one year came to America settling in Pittsburgh. She came to Duquesne in 1907, where she had since made her home. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic church, and of the Christian Mothers' society of that parish and of the Sacred Heart society St. Agnes' Catholic church, Thompson Run.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Zewe and Mrs. Nicholas Gessner, both of Peter street; by four sons, William, Peter, Frank and Jacob, all of Duquesne; by one brother and one sister, Mrs. Henry Ruhe, of Duquesne and Casper Fey, of Boston, Pa., and by 37 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock with solemn high mass at St. Joseph's Catholic church by Rev. Father A. Vogel and Rev. Father Joseph A. Doerr, assistant and Rev. Father George Leichs, pastor of St. Agnes' church, officiating. Burial was made in the St. Joseph's parish cemetery. (Source: Duquesne Times, Friday, Feb. 17, 1928)
