She left home when she was sixteen and lived with William Sherman Kimes and his wife Lettie in California. She was terribly homesick but Woodie and her brothers encouraged her to stay. She married Russell Woodworth Burrell, (Casey) the 9th of August, 1924 in Hanford, Kings County, California. He was born the 1st of May, 1898 in Hanford, Kings County, California to Monroe Burrell and Martha Sanders (sometimes spelled Saunders). Edith and Russell lived most of their married life in Hanford, Kings County, California. She took extension courses to further her education and went to work for a bank in Hanford. She took time out when her children were born and did not go back to work until they were in their teens. She went to work for the County in the Tax Department and became the Deputy Tax Collector. She worked there until she retired. Russell worked for Southern California Edison Company. He was transferred to Visalia, Tulare County, California for a short period of time and then back to Hanford. He and Edith divorced for about three years after their children were grown and then remarried. They sold their home in Hanford and moved to Morro Bay, California where they lived until their deaths. She died August 31, 1984 in Morro Bay.
Edith loved to write and receive letters. She helped Virginia with names and addresses of family members. Edith and Casey had two children: Leland Russell Burrell and Joyce Lorriane Burrell.
