Dawn McAllister Volmar, 75, passed away peacefully in St. George, Utah on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 of heart failure. Dawn was born to Alexander McAllister and Madeline Ford McAllister on December 14, 1927 in Kanab, Utah. Her parents, brothers, and sister: Devon, Duane, and June McAllister preceded her in death. Her sisters Barbara McAllister Holmes and LaRae Millet Ross survive her.

Dawn graduated from Kanab High School in 1946 where she served as student body vice president and made many life-long friends. She attended LDS Business College and lived at the Beehive House in Salt Lake City before marrying Herbert Carl Volmar in the Salt Lake Temple on February 17, 1950. Dawn and Herb were devoted to each other throughout their 53-year marriage.

Dawn was a loving and dedicated mother, who cared deeply for her five children: Suzanne (Bruce) Riches of Denver, CO; Brad (Jeri) Volmar of Kaysville, UT; Carolyn (Doug) Nielsen of Centerville, UT; Scott (Lori) Volmar of Fullerton, CA; and, Paulette (Dan) Cary of Salt Lake City,UT. Dawn's 13 grandchildren cherished her kindness and the always-joyful welcome they received in her beautiful home. They include: Christian (Desa), Julie, Eric, and Kurt Volmar; Amber, Matt, and Judd Nielsen; Daniel, Philip, Hannah, and Victoria Volmar; Lindsay and Chelsea Riches.

Dawn and Herb spent 40 years in Centerville, Utah, where they reared their family. Dawn made many friends, and served diligently in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She spent 10 years working for BYU-Salt Lake. For the past 10 years, Herb and Dawn lived in St. George, Utah. Again, Dawn blessed many with her vibrant smile, friendship, and service.

Dawn will be remembered for her devotion to her family, fun-loving spirit, creativity, and ability to create wonderful celebrations. Dawn brought people together through laughter and a sunny disposition. She will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, and many friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 4, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Centerville 6th Ward Chapel, 900 S. 4th E. Visitations will be Sun., Aug. 3, 2003 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Mon. from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to services both at the Centerville 6th Ward Chapel. Interment will be in the Centerville City Cemetery.
