POQUOSON - Dennis Lee "Denny" Cross, 63, passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2012. He fought long and hard and stayed strong until he lost his battle to cancer.

Denny attended Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson, and was awarded the Purple Heart for his Army service in Vietnam.

He was a self-taught guitar, keyboard, and trombone player, and had a love for music and singing. He played in a local band for many years, the Rock & Roll Review, best known for their rendition of the Blues Brothers.

He worked as a consultant for N.A.S.A., Quinn Consulting, and NXL.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sidney and Pauline Forrest Cross.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Deena Murray Cross; four sons, Brian Cross & wife Stephanie, Dennis Cross Jr. & wife, Breeze, Brandon Cross & wife, Beth, and Craig Murray & wife, Michelle; three sisters, Sherry Taylor & husband, F. A., Janie Beimler & husband, Harold, and JoAnne Thorne & Billy Hunt; six grandchildren, Brendan, Cameron, and Preston Cross, Alexis Anne and Brendan Murray, and Kaitlynn Elizabeth Cross expected in December; and many nieces and nephews.


The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, immediately followed by a funeral service at the funeral home by the Rev. Katherine Gray. Burial will follow at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens, Hampton, with military honors.
