Karl came to Iowa in the 1850's to join his children. He was a jack of all trades in Baden. In Schutterzell he was bürgermeister, master forester and inn keeper. In Ichenheim, along with his brother Joseph, he was a forester to the Grand Duke of Baden, and of course, before all that he was a soldier in Napoleon's Grand Army.
