Richard was born on Jan. 10, 1941 in Wells, Nevada. He lived in Nyssa, OR with his wife, Christina, whom he married in 1959. They had two children, Marina Mejia Miller (Chris) and Christopher Mejia (Shandl); four grandsons, Marcus Mejia, Matt Mejia (Jenna), Joshua Mejia and Michael Mejia; and one great-granddaughter, Aislee. Richard considered his grandsons and great-granddaughter treasures to behold.
He also had a special place in his heart for his in-laws, Mr. & Mrs. Luis H. Vendrell, who preceded him in death. Helen Garza Aguirre, his two brothers-in law, Luis Vendrell Jr. (Shirley), and Rudolph Vendrell; five sisters-in-law, Oralia Vendrell, Marcella Vendrell, Virginia Barrientos (Rogelio), Rosa Vendrell and Delores Cornwell (Raymond); and 15 nieces and nephews.
Richard was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, hunting, and all types of sports. He was a member of the Rodeo Board, the Owhyee Riding Club, and the Malheur County Sherriff's posse. He was also involved in numerous community and school projects.
Richard will be remembered with special memories by family and friends.
Services will be held at St Bridget's Catholic on Oct. 19, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will follow at the Nyssa Cemetery.
