Abel's obituary said he drowned swimming the Tamarack River near Shotley, to get to the meadow he owned. He was buried near his home there in the meadow. His grave is marked, but over grown per cousin PJ Hallock. Abel was 8yrs old when his father died, and he is listed with his grandparents in the 1850 Fed US Census. He worked to help his mother support all her children, until he joined the Union Army during the Civil War. He returned home and married Fanny Langley. They disagreed on their lifestyle and she left with the two smallest children to Nebraska. He told his other children their mother was dead. After Abel's death, their children discovered their mother was alive and living in Nebraska. His mother was Ann Babcock. Special thanks to cousin Patrick for the great pics.
