Agnes Knippa Linebrink, 91, drew her last earthly breath and her first heavenly breath on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, surrounded by her family. The love she showered on family, friends and strangers was evidenced of the faithful love she had for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by showing kindness to all.
"Aggie's" care and worry-free attitude throughout her life kept her cheerful in all weathers, helping her to overcome hardships along life's path. She always complimented others with her familiar greeting of "hawney, prince or princess", and that small gift brought joy to those she encountered.
Born in a farming family in Vernon, Texas, she was the second-oldest of 8 children and was baptized in the Christian faith by Rev. J. A. Birnbaum at St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she also attended parochial school. Whatever her family lacked in material means was more than compensated for in love and deep faith. In her early teens the Great Depression caused the family to relocate back to Lincoln, Texas in Lee County, living in Grandma Lydia's house. There she continued her parochial education and was confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Loebau by Rev. Wm. H. Remmert.
She moved with her older siblings to Austin, where she furthered her education and worked to support the family back home. While working at Robert Mueller and Sons in the leather goods department, she met a handsome airman from Ohio, George Linebrink, stationed at Del Valle Air Base. After a long courtship during which George was deployed overseas with the Hump Pilots in the China, Burma, India Theater, they were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Austin after Thanksgiving Eve Services on November 28, 1945 by Rev. Albert F. Jesse.
They moved the next day to Ft. Wayne, Indiana where George had a job waiting for him at Magnavox Corp. There they had Mike and Pat, born only 11 months apart which made them "Irish twins". Shortly thereafter the family moved back to Austin where George and Eddie Knippa, Aggie's brother, became partners in Austin Jalousie Co. The family then moved to San Antonio where George's entrepreneurial gift led him to start and succeed in several businesses, allowing Aggie to be a stay-at-home Mom during their children's school years.
A move back to Austin in 1961 became their finest business endeavor when together they founded Builders Display, a "mom and pop" hardware and appliance store that was family-owned for the next 33 years. During that time Aggie stepped away from the family business and developed her 25-year passion for selling china and crystal, especially working in bridal registry, for Dillard's and Scarborough's, from which she retired in the late 90's to do volunteer work at St. David's Hospital and the Bethesda Thrift Store.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Gust and Clara (Moerbe) Knippa; husband, George; daughter, Patricia Callaham; sisters, Beatrice Tschatschula and Lillian Bach; and brothers, George, Eddie and Bobby Knippa, all from central Texas.
She is survived by her son, Michael and wife Pixie; son-in-law, Sandy Callaham; five grandchildren, Ryan (Nikki) Callaham, Kimber (Brian) Matocha, Scott (Kelly) Linebrink, Lindsey (Matt) Rochner and Kelly (Brandon) David, also all from central Texas. In addition, Aggie is survived by great-grandchildren: Cooper Welch; Caylee, Coy, and Cade Matocha; Ellie and Abby Linebrink; Wyatt and Ivy Rochner; and "Baby David" who is due to enter this life next week. Special friend, "Mr. Bob" Kenny, who has been a companion and blessing to her and the family for the past 20 years, also survives her.
