Herman Blankenship
Herman Denver Blankenship, 82, of 110 Greyson St., Martinsville, died Friday, March 31, 2006, at his home.
He was born May 15, 1923, in Fork Mountain, to James Granville Blankenship and Henrietta Keys Blankenship. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Inez Nunn; and four brothers, Curtis Blankenship, Russell Blankenship, Kenneth "Tenny" Blankenship and Henry Junior Blankenship.
He served in the Army's 252nd Combat Engineers Battalion in the European Theater during World War II. He worked for the former Bowman Motor Sales for a period and retired as a band saw operator at W.M. Bassett Furniture. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Margarette Parker Blankenship; a son, Gerald Denver "Jerry" Blankenship of Martinsville; a daughter, Margaret "Mickey" Blankenship Beck of Martinsville; a sister, Marie Blankenship of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and a brother, Jesse Blankenship.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Norris Funeral Services chapel with Dr. Calvin Rains and Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
