I knew Fannie Lois as 'MomMom'. She was my Mother's Mother. When I was born, she asked my Father to name me after her first husband Robert and her Father William. When I was a kid and she told me her first name was Fannie, I laughed. Lois's birth certificate states that she was born on April 2, 1916 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Her Father and Mother are listed as William E. Woodward and Fannie McGowan.

Some time between 1920 and 1927, Lois' Mother Fannie and Father William Woodward were divorced. Fannie remarried in 1927 to a man named Nathaniel Murphy - "Pop Murphy" as my Grandmother used to call her step father.

The 1930 Census states that Lois was 13 years old. She was listed as being born in Pennsylvania. Her Mother and Father were listed as being born in Pennsylvania as well. Lois was able to read, write and speak English and was attending school. Lois lived at 2934 North Mascher St in Philadelphia Pennsylvania with her Mother Fannie, her step father Nathaniel Murphy, his daughters May and Milliam and Lois' Brother Howard.

Lois worked for Dr Leeds as a nurse's assistant from the 1950's right up until 1973 when she broke both her legs falling down steps in her house. I remember visiting her in the hospital with my Mom. It was at that time that she retired. Lois remarried in 1968 to a man named Robert Milford Parks. They enjoyed travelling around the United States, but they especially enjoyed vacationing with their family in Stone Harbor New Jersey. They would spend three weeks renting a house at 231 117th Street in Stone Harbor New Jersey and going to the beach almost every day. MomMom also loved yellow daffodils and fried oysters. Her favorite actor was Fred McMurray (he reminded her of her old boyfriend Cy. One of the things she used to say was that time goes by so fast and it waits for no one.

My MomMom suffered from chronic pain in her neck. She wore a neck brace quite often, although I was never sure of exactly what good it did. I would often massage her neck for her. She carried around an enormous pocketbook that seemed to have everything inside. And, I mean everything! I was a whining brat in the back seat of her car complaining that I was thirsty. MomMom pulled a small glass of water from her pocketbook and gave it to me! All with a giant grin on her face! Little did I know it was for her pills, but she gave it to me.

Lois passed away in 1993 after a battle with Parkinson's Disease. She died two days after a huge birthday bash at her daughter Barbara's house. She was 77.
