MURFREESBORO - Services for Fred A. Garner, 84, a retired farmer of Christiana, will be at 2 p.m. today at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Garner died Sunday in Rutherford Hospital.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ella Smotherman Garner; three sons, Robert, Knoxville, J.C., Christiana, and Fred A. Garner, Jr., Colorado Springs; a brother, Hugh R. Garner, Arlington, VA; a sister Mrs. Jennie Kearns, Knoxville and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Fred A. Garner, 84, Shelbyville Hwy., Christiana. will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Woodfin Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Clifford Hale Officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Garner died Sunday at Rutherford Hospital after an extended illness. A native of Anderson County, he was the son of the late John R. and Nancy Galbreath Garner. He owned and operated a grocery business in Knoxville many years before moving to Christiana in 1933. He was a member of the Christiana Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ella Smotherman Garner; three sons, Robert Garner of Knoxville, J.C. Garner of Christiana, and Fred A. Garner, Jr. of Colorado Springs., Colo. one brother, Hugh R. Garner of Arlington, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Kearns of Knoxville; and two grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Buford Smotherman, Fuston Smotherman, Hoyte Parsons, Jr., Clyde Beavers, John Adcock, Ed Young, and Ray Myers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Powell, Will Miller, Robert Rose, Dr. Paul Estes, Hoyte Parsons, Sr., Julian Fingar, Clarence Holden, Willard Barber, and Gilbert Barber.
