Jacob is the son of Perry Commodore Garlow and Margaret (Himes) Garlow. He has two brothers William Perry and Frederick John "Freddie" and seven sisters Estella, Emma, Mary Catherine, Jessie, Alice, Fay and Ruth. All members of the family were born in Ohio.

'Jacob G. Garlow'

'A resident of Kern City, Calif., Jacob G. (Jake) Garlow, 81, died Feb. 25 in a hospital at Bakersfield, Calif.
He was born in 1888 in Bryan, the son of Perry and Margaret (Himes) Garlow, and resided in this area until he was about 20 years old.
Mr. Garlow went to Portugese West Africa in 1920 for the Sinclair Oil Co., for two years, and from 1923 to 1941 he worked for foreign oil companies in upper Burma and India. He returned to Bakersfield at the outbreak of World War II to work at Minter Field. At the time of his retirement in 1957, he was employed by the Honolula Oil Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Survivors include two sons, one brother and one sister residing in Findlay, and another sister at Toledo, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.'

"GARLOWS ENTERTAINED AT ANNIVERSARY FETE
Mr. and Mrs. Jake G. Garlow of Morro Bay, former residents of Bakersfield for many years, were honored recently on their golden wedding anniversary. Their sons, Jake G. Garlow Jr. and Robert Garlow, and their families motored to the coast to surprise them with a gold money tree bearing good wishes from relatives and friends.
The couple was entertained at a champagne party and dinner at the Golden Tree in Morro Bay.
Mr. and Mrs. Garlow were united in marriage on Jan. 24, 1913 at the Baptist Church in Bakersfield. Mrs. Garlow is one of 11 children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Constantino Monotti of Bakersfield and Granite Station, pioneers of Kern County. Mr. Garlow's parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Perry C. Garlow of Bryan Ohio.
The couple lived in Assam, India, and Anglo Portuguese West Africa for 20 years where Mr. Garlow did oil exploration work for the Burma Oil company of Scotland. Returning to Bakersfield, he worked for the Honolulu Oil Company and Oceanic Oil Company from which he retired in 1959.
Upon his retirement they built their new home in Morro Bay where they moved last year."

Guests Examine African Trophies

Granite, Dec. 31-- Mr. and Mrs. Will Williams were Christmas day and all night guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Garlow, Sr, and Bob Garlow of Bakersfield. Other Christmas dinner guest of the Garlows were Mr. and Mrs. Jake Garlow, Jr. and daughter of Bakersfield.
After the dinner the guests enjoyed looking at the trophies that Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Garlow, Sr. brought back from Africa, India, Burma and China.
Among the trophies were tiger, leopard, fish cats and very large civet-cat rugs. Mr. Garlow killed the animals from which the rugs were made. The tigers were man killers.
The Garlows also have articles of Burmese carved wood lacquer moldings, paintings, hand wrought and engraved articles made of coin silver, a variety of native jungle knives, Indian carved ivory, engraved brass trays and vases, Chinese lacquer ware, embroidered linens, silks and laces.
Mrs. Garlow spent much of her spare time while in India and Burma in making a collection of butterflies and has many beautiful mounted specimens and some very rare ones. Mrs. Garlow is a member of the Monotti family, pioneer residents of
Granite Station.
