Concetta Esposito was born to parents Raffaele Esposito and Maria Cardillo. Family legend says that Concetta's ancestors were somehow connected to a political or royal family. This legend may come from the fact that Concetta's grandchildren said she made them kiss her hand when they visited her. There is a documented story about a Raffaele Esposito who was a pizza maker in Naples who created the Pizza Margheritain in 1889 in honor of Umberto I, King of Italy, wife, Queen Margherita di Savoia when the royal couple visited Naples on holiday. Unfortunately, there isn't proof that this is Concetta's father Raffaele. But this could be where Concetta got her queenly attitude!
Concetta married Guiseppe in an arranged marriage about 1884 in Naples when she was 16 years old and together they ran a hotel in Naples and had a good life. She left Naples on November 21,1905, with her youngest 5 children, to join her husband in America on the Nord America arriving in New York on December 7, 1905. The life she had here was much harder than expected and she became bitter and overweight.
She had ten children: Maria, Pasquale known as Patsy born in 1888; Alfonso known as Alfred in 1890; Orsola, known as Elizabeth or Lizzie in 1894; Luisa in 1895; Salvatore Francesco known as Frankie in 1896; Giovanna known as Jennie on June 29, 1898, daughter Gelsomima known as Jessie in 1903; all born in Naples and the last two children born in NY were: Joseph in 1907; and Margaret on January 27, 1909. Son Joseph was hit by a Rega's bakery truck and died young.
Concetta Esposito DeLuise died of bronchopneumonia at 3pm on December 10, 1932 at home at 2230 West 6th St. in Brooklyn, NY. She was buried on December 13th in Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, Queens County, NY.
