Melvin Parker
Melvin ("Buzz") Parker, 70, of 20 Jones Road, a three-year kitchen assistant at Deerfield Academy, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. He retired in 1992. He worked previously for the former Boston & Maine Railroad, at sawmills, as a dairy farmer, and as a teamster. He also helped out at the Bar-Way Farm. Born in Montague, he attended the Conway schools, and worshipped at the Robbins Memorial Church in Greenfield. He leaves his wife, the former Beverly Welcome; four sons, Richard Parker of Clarksville, Tenn., Gary Parker of Ware, Daniel Parker of Greenfield, and Brian Rider of Turners Falls; two daughters, Bonnie Eacott of West Deerfield, and Deborah Rider of Turners Falls; a brother, Frederick of Conway; a sister, Marian Young of Buckland; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. The funeral is Wednesday morning at the church, with the burial in West Deerfield Cemetery. The calling hours are this evening at McCarthy Funeral Home, and memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 34 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, 01107.
