Obituary from McCook Tribune in 1916
Died Following Operation. Mrs. W.M. Bales, a daughter of Mrs. Thomas Bales of our city, died at her home in Ravenna, Nebraska, Sunday morning. Departed had undergone an operation for gallstones, Friday previous. Funeral will be held at Ravenna, Wednesday of this week. A husband and seven children survive. Mrs. Thomas Bales was called to Ravenna, last Wednesday, by the serious illness of her daughter. Clarence Bales, of our city, Mr. And Mrs. Thomas Bales, Jr., of Norton, Kansas, Mr. And Mrs. Mapes, and Mr. And Mrs. Henry Jeffers of our city left today for Ravenna, to be present at the burial Wednesday. Mrs. W. S. Bales, of Ravenna, passed away yesterday morning about 5:30 o'clock at Sst. Francis hospital (Grand Island) following a recent operation for gall stones at the age of 40 years, three months and fourteen days. Mr. and Mrs. Bales are well known residents of Ravenna where they have resided for some time, Mr. Bales being in the employ of the Burlington railroad as engineer. Besides her husband, she leaves six children to mourn her loss. The remains were taken to Ravenna yesterday afternoon where interment will be made, the funeral taking place on Tuesday afternoon.
