Upon his marriage, his father gave him land in Roxbury, with a dwelling
house, mill house, and tan-pits to start him in housekeeping and the
business of tanning. He lived there and became a prominent member of
the community, frequently chosen to the offices of constable, auditor,
fence-viewer, surveyor of highways and sealer of weights and measures.
He was Captain of the Roxbury Militia 1733/34.
