A lifelong resident of the Murphysboro area, Mrs. Bowers was the widow of Clifton Bowers.
She is survived by daughters, Miss Margaret Alice Bowers and Mrs. Mary Powers, and sons, Michael, Timothy and Cooper Bowers, all of Murphysboro, a sister, Mrs. Margaret Kent, Murphysboro, and 13 grandchildren. Michael Bowers is a Murphysbero councilman.
Mrs. Bowers was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientists of Murphyaboro, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Murphysboro Chamber of Commerce.
Born in Ava, May 5, 1913, she was a daughter of Cooper H. and Mary E. (Cheatham) Stout.
Her marriage to Bowers occurred in Nashville Aug. 13, 1924. He died April 24, 1962. A daughter and one brother, Paul Stout, also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Bowers' father was a U.S. marshall. The Murphysboro American Legion post was named for her brother.
Services for Mrs. Bowers will be 2 p.m. Monday in Meyer-Denny Funeral Home, Murphysboro. Mrs. Mary Moeller will he the reader. Burial will ba in Tower Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.
