The body arrived here by hearse this afternoon and was taken immediately to the cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. M. L. Hughes, Ed Carney, Dr. Bryce Runyon, Charles V. Runyon, Couts Askew, C. C. Beach, and Calvin Fletcher.
Mr. Couts was born in Clarksville, the son of John F. Couts, for many years a leading business man of Clarksville. The father headed the John F. Couts furniture and funeral home. The son graduated from Southwestern Presbyterian University and was a salesman for a diamond and silver firm, and later was a salesman for a casket company.
Leaving here about 35 years ago, Mr. Couts moved to Hot Springs, Ark., where he made his home until some three months before his death. Fifteen years ago while in Waco, Tex., Mr. Couts was struck by an automobile when he stepped from a street car. He was seriously injured and remained a semi-invalid. Some three months ago he moved to Paducah to make his home with his daughter.
Mr. Couts was twice married. He first married Miss Mattie Hayes, who preceded him in death many years ago. Of this union a daughter, Mrs. Davis, and two sons, John F. Couts of New York City, and H. Douglas Couts, of Washington, survive. He also leaves his second wife and two sisters, Mrs. W. E. Beach and Mrs. L. B. Askew of this city.
