Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie Couts Beach, wife of W.E. Beach, former mayor of Clarksville, who died at her home, 407 Franklin Street, shortly after 9 o'clock last night, will be held this afternoon at 5 o'clock at the grave in Greenwood Cemetery.
The Rev. Willard Blue, pastor of the Madison-street Methodist Church will officiate, assisted by Dr. Richard N. Owen, pastor of the First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be: Eaton Harrison, Will Elliott, Henry Lupton, Judge John T. Cunningham, Mack Hanner, Charlie Runyon, Dr. Bryce Runyon, W.M. Daniel, C.B. Fletcher and W.H. Hall.
Mrs. Beach was born and reared in Clarksville, the daughter of the late John F. and Fletcher McNelly Couts. She had spent her entire life here.
Mrs. Beach became a member of the Methodist Church at the age of 11 and was very active in all phases of church work until her health failed a few years ago. She also took a leading part in civic and charitable activities, and was widely known by a host of friends in the community for her benevolent spirit and her outstanding Christian character.
She was married to Mr. Beach Nov. 4, 1885, and celebrated her golden wedding anniversary in 1935.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, C. C. (Buddy) Beach, well known Clarksville business man and a son-in-law, Herbert Sawrie, Nashville. Other survivors include: two sisters, Mrs. L. B. Askew, Clarksville, and Mrs. W. L. Hopkins, New York City; two grandchildren, Mrs. John T. Cunningham, Jr., and William Ernest Sawrie, both of Clarksville; two great-grandchildren, John T. Cunningham IV, and Larry Cunningham, and several nieces and nephews. Two of these, Mrs. Frank Davis, Paducah, and John C. Askew, Trenton, Ky., were at her bedside.
