Mattie Hochstedler was born October 26, 1925 in Arthur, Illinois the daughter of John G. and Lena(Mast)Hochstedler. In her youth she accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized in the Old Order Amish Church and remained faithful until her death. In 1958 she moved to Garnet, Kansas and in 1974 she moved to Kalona.

Mattie died on Friday, September 28 at her home in Kalona at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 2 days. Mattie is survived by four sisters Fannie Hochstedler of Kalona, Annie Gingerich of Bloomfield, Amanda Hochstedler of Kalona, Alta Hochstedler of Kalona; twelve nieces and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Omer and Henry; a sister-in-law Rebecca Hochstedler, and a brother-in-law John Gingerich.

Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 am on Monday, October 1, 2012 at the Paul Beachy residence at 1069 Maple Ave in rural Kalona. Visitation will begin at 3 pm on Saturday and will continue all day on Sunday at the Paul Beachy residence. Interment: October 1, 2012 at South Gingerich Cemetery. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in in charge of the arrangements.
