Joseph Gates (Joseph 3, Joseph 2, George 1), born March 28, 1722 in East Haddam, CT, baptized November 14, 1725, married December 4, 1746, Abigail Fuller, born in East Haddam, October 19, 1718, daughter of Timothy Fuller (Samuel 2, Matthew 1) and his wife, Mary Champion. They resided in Millington. On May 9, 1771, the General Assembly commissioned him lieutenant of the second company in the 12th Connecticut Regiment. Abigail died, September 9, 1801, in her 83rd year and he died, April 17, 1808, in his 87th year. They were buried near the First Church in East Haddam.
