He was born October 23, 1938, in Meadville, the son of the late V. Tracy and Lena Marie Chalot Moffit.
He married Carol Ridgeway on July 5, 1957. She preceded him in death on April 11, 1999.
He was an Army Veteran, a member of the V.F.W. Post #2006, American Legion Post #111, the Elks #219, the Meadville Club, West Mead #2 V.F.D. and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #388. He was a member of St. Brigid Church. He retired from Stroehmann Bakery after 34 years as a sales manager. After retirement, he worked for Dad's Dog Food in the Security Department.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and step-mother, Rosella Petruna Moffit.
He is survived by a son, Michael J. Moffit Jr., of Saegertown, Pa.; a daughter, Marlene M. Moffit, with whom he made his home; a son, James M. (wife Melinda) Moffit of Erie, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Helen Bovard of Meadville, Rebecca A. Custard of Thorndale, Texas; a brother, Patrick (wife Joyce) Moffit of Meadville; his companion, Mary Holzer, of Meadville; and a grandson, Matthew J. Moffit; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Roofner-Collins Funeral Home, 544 Chestnut Street, Meadville, Pa. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Roofner-Collins Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the St. Brigid Cemetery, with full Military Honors conducted by the V.F.W. Post 2006, Meadville.
