She was born June 8, 1937, in Meadville, a daughter of Vincent Tracy and Lena (Chick) Chalot Moffit. She married John W. Bovard on Dec. 31, 1965, and he preceded her in death Jan. 19, 1995.
Mary Helen was a 1955 graduate of St. Agatha High School and attended Villa Maria College, Erie. She worked at a variety of places over the years, but her favorite was working as a bookkeeper for 18 years at John Weagraff's BP Station on the corner of North and Liberty streets.
Mary Helen was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church. She was also a member of West Mead 1 Volunteer Fire Company where she served as treasurer for 11 years, life member of the West Mead 1 auxiliary and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006 auxiliary. She loved crocheting, gardening, playing cards and board games and trips to the casino.
Survivors include a son, Don Raymond Bovard and his wife, Kimberlie, of Meadville; a granddaughter, Marissa June Kawinski of Meadville; a brother, Patrick T. Moffit and his wife, Joyce, of Meadville; a sister, Rebecca Custard of Thrall, Texas; nieces and nephews, Marlene Moffit, Randy Custard, Kathy Custard, Tina Curtis, James Moffit, Brian Custard, Doug Custard, Tracy Steck, Marcy Monnie, and Gary Bovard; and a dear friend, Patricia Harrison of Atlantic.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Moffit Sr. and his wife, Carol; a nephew, Michael Moffit Jr.; her stepmother, Rosella Moffit; and a nephew, Richard (Dick) Bovard and his wife, Hannah.
Calling hours are today from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville, with a Prayer Vigil service at 3 p.m. and a West Mead 1 Volunteer Fire Co. service at 7 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, with Father Matthew Kujawinski as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
