Veteran of the Battle of Fair Oaks.

20 Apr 1864 - Lt. Kiester was captured with the Federal Garrison at Plymouth, NC. He was sent to Andersonville prison. He was transferred to Charleston SC in August 1864.
5 Oct 1864 - The officers were being transferred to Colombia SC, where Lt. Kiester escaped en-route, with Capt. Alvin Alexander PA 103rd, and Capt. Bascom, 5th Iowa.
16 Oct 1864 - The party traveled north, Kiester and Alexander were recaptured in Rutherford, NC. Their captor was also a veteran of the battle of Fair Oaks, and treated them well.
Kiester was transferred to other prisons in Virginia. They were paroled 21 Feb 1865 and arrived in Annapolis the next day.
