He was born Dec. 21, 1921 in Tarnopol, Poland, a son of Stanislaw and Katarzyna Dziura Bator. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. He married Dolores Bartoski on Jan. 16, 1955 in Chicago. She survives.
He is also survived by two daughters, Theresa (Herman Jackson) Bator and Christine Bator; two grandchildren, Jacob Lohman and Katie (Eric Harriel II) Lohman; great-grandchild, Kaleb Harriel; two sisters in Poland and many nieces and nephews.
He served as a corporal with the Polish Army under British command during World War II. Prior to the war, he was deported and interned to a Russian prison camp, then released on amnesty and joined the Polish forces. He served in the Middle East, Italy and the United Kingdom until discharged in 1947. His many medals and awards include a Cross for Valour, Cross of Monte Cassino and honorary decoration for wounds.
