Suggested edit: Butler, Mo., Oct. 4 – Mrs. Sarah [Susan] A. Bentley, 86, died here today at the home of her nephew, William Cooper.

Mrs. Bentley was born in Marion County, Ill., near Decatur, and lived there until after the close of the Civil war. In the fall of 1857 she attended a house party in Decatur in which Abraham Lincoln was a guest. She sat next to him at supper, and during the evening she danced several times with him. Mrs. Bentley was a member of a party of thirty-six young ladies who rode horseback from Decatur to Springfield to attend the Lincoln-Douglas debate in 1858. They circled the grand stand which the speakers occupied. Mrs. Bentley met Lincoln several times afterwards in Springfield, and was present at his funeral in that city.

She came here over fifty years ago and leaves two children. Her husband, John T. Bentley, died several years ago.
