Death of J. G. Appel

After an illness of paralysis, lasting through a period of several months, John G. Appel died at half-past six o'clock this morning, at this residence on East Second street. Mr. Appel had been in the saloon business for several years at the northeast corner of Mulberry and Second streets, but owing to failing health, sold out to Steigerwald & Gallagher and retired a few months ago. He was of a genial character, well liked by many friends, and was a native of this city, where he was born almost fifty years ago, as his half century of life would have been rounded out had he lived until next January. He leaves a wife, formerly Miss Sandy Cavanaugh, but no children. Besides his mother, three brothers and two sisters survive. The funeral will probably take place next Thursday.
