W.H. Clore Struck as He Stops to Investigate Rt. 1 Motor Mishap
Lived at Dunavant
W. H. Clore, 72, of Dunavant, Spotsylvania County, was struck by an automobile and killed about 7 o'clock this morning while crossing Route 1 near Fort Belvoir to investigate another automobile mishap.
State police said the care that struck Clore was occupied by three soldiers, who were en route south. no charge was place against an of the men immediately, but an inquest was set for today by Fairfax coroner McCord.
Police were told that Clore was riding with his son. Floyd Clore, and stopped at Dogue Run where another car had run off the road and plunged into a creek. The car was half submerged, and blood was found on the machine, but no one was in it.
Clore and his son were en route to their work at a naval housing project at Alexandria where the elder Clore had been employed for five weeks, when the accident occurred.
Clore was born in Madison County but at an early age moved to the Dunavant section where for many years he engaged in farming. He was a well-known resident of the vicinity.
He is survived by his wife and five son, Clarence, James, Ennis, Rogers and Floyd Clore; three daughters, Mrs. Dudley Browne, Mrs. Edna Dunavant and Mrs. William Price.
Funeral services will be announced tomorrow.
