Army Spc. Sahib was assigned to the 20th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Div., Ft. Hood, Texas. Sahib was killed when he and another soldier were cleaning their weapons and the other soldier's weapon discharged striking Sahib in the chest (under investigation). Rasheed's family came to New York from Guyana in 1988. He graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn, New York and decided to join the military in 2000 because he hoped it would lead to a better life in the United States. Rasheed was a big-hearted guy who was nicknamed "Smiley" because he never got mad at anyone. He had dreams of going to college and becoming an FBI agent. Because he was so kind, he made dozens of friends in his neighborhood and spent long hours souping up his beloved 1994 Honda Civic. But barbecuing was Rasheed's passion – not even the rain would stop him. He would stand outside tending to the grill while holding an umbrella.
