Niels Peter Christiansen was born on May 6, 1831, in Åstrup, Denmark.
After Nels and Maren arrived in Philadelphia, PA, on October 30, 1889, they went across the US to Orum, Washington County, Nebraska with their son Peter. They brought their youngest daughter Maria with them. They settled in Orum, Washington County, Nebraska on a small place where they kept a few chickens, a couple of cows, etc. Later one of their daughters, Poulina Christiansen - Knutson, lived in their house until she died. In the 1900 census, Nels and Maren are listed as being married for 42 years, living in De Soto Twp, Washington County, Nebraska with their sons Jens and Christian. There was also a boarder by the name of Christina B. Hansen. Christina was Jens future wife.
Between 1845 and 1882, Nels Peter worked and lived on a large dairy farm in Denmark. Maren and Nels had 3 sons and 4 daughters. The 1900 census states they had eight children. The eighth and last time Maren was pregnant was at age 59, This baby was born in February 1898 and died February 28, 1898 at Orum Nebraska and is buried in an unmarked grave next to Nels and Maren's graves at the Lutheran Cemetery near Orum.
Niels died on March 5, 1913, in Washington County, Nebraska, having lived a long life of 81 years. He and his wife Maren are buried in the Lutheran Cemetary Row E 11 and 12.
The union of Nels and Maren Christiansen was blessed with eight children:

Nelson Christensen, after an illness of several months, died at his home in Orum Thursday at the age of about 82 years and the funeral service was held Saturday Afternoon at the Danish Church.
