Margaret Arletta (Hanlin) Fahlberg was born in her grandmother's home in Geneva, to William and Mae (Goeury) Hanlin on Aug. 31, 1919. She passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Bryan/LGH West Hospital in Lincoln at the age of 83 years.

Margaret was married to John Douglas Fahlberg of Shickley, on Aug. 19, 1945, at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Lincoln. They were happily married for 56 years until John passed away on April 22, 2002. They were blessed with two daughters, Mary and Marcia.

Margaret graduated from Geneva High School in 1936. She began her work experience at the Geneva State Bank working for Melvin Ralston in the loan department. She then began her bookkeeping career at the Koehler Co. She was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church and the P.E.O Sisterhood. She was the treasurer of the Geneva Library Board for many years. She served on numerous church committees throughout the years from Sunday School Superintendent to secretary of the administrative board. She was also active in her church women's circle. When she was president of her P.E.O. chapter, she attended the national convention in New York City with was a once in a lifetime experience.

Margaret and John enjoyed their many trips around the United States and abroad. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and enjoyed the activities of all her grandchildren. Her dedication to all family members was apparent to those around her. She loved doing crocheting, needlework and baking to give to her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband John; her parents William and Mae; and infant brother and sister; and her brother Eugene of Denison, Iowa.

She is survived by her daughters Mary Saum and husband Rick of Geneva [Mary died in 2007 and Rick died in 2017], Marcia and husband Steve; grandchildren Marla and John , Erin and Kristen; one great-grandson Gaven; two brothers John (Carol) of Neligh [John died in 2016] and Jim (Vi) of Fairbury [Jim died in 2004]; one sister Ruth (Art) of York; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the United Methodist Church in Geneva on Monday, April 7, 2003, with Pastor Pat Kelley officiating.

Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied Delwin Myers who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace," and the congregation who sang "Blessed Assurance."

Pallbearers were Marla Saum, John Saum, Rick Saum, Steve Bond, Jim Whitehead, and Bruce Nedrow.

Honorary pallbearers were Erin Bond, Kristen Bond, Gaven Turgeon, John Hanlin, Jim Hanlin, and Art Roemmich.

Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery with Farmer & Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
