Hubert Wagers, 81, died March 15, 2005 at his apartment in the Brookside Manor in Hood River after a long battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 3, 1928, near Tahlequah, Okla., to Rebecca Blackwell Wagers and Moses Wagers. He entered the Army in 1942 and served as a staff sergeant in the Hawaiian Seacoast Artillery Command in the Army Signal Corps. He attended and graduated from Southern Oregon College in Ashland. He married Violet Parkhurst in June 1949 and they taught school in Lake County, Oregon until the mid 70's. They moved to the Rose-burg/Sutherlin area and Hubert worked for Sunrise Enterprises until he retired. After his wife died in 2001, he moved to the Down Manor in Hood River to be closer to his daughter.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Violet, his parents and two brothers. His special friend Blanche Cook-ston, daughter Carolyn McDaniel and son Mark Wagers survive him. Two granddaughters survive, Rachel Lee and Robin McDaniel, as well as two sisters, Barbara Fox and Ester Holmes and several nieces and nephews.
A service of remembrance will be held at Down Manor on Brookside Drive in Hood River on Saturday, March 19, at 1:30 p.m. Private inurnment of his ashes will be attended by the family in the Tenmile Cemetery, Douglas County Oregon. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Gorge. Arrangements are by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
