Died, Saturday night, at 11:45 o'clock, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.Z. Mitchell, Thirteenth and Main, Uriah Downtain, aged 92 years and five months.
Mr. Downtain was born in West Virginia February 4, 1811. In early youth he moved to Kentucky where he grew to manhood, and in 1835 married Miss Lavinia Thrailkeld. To them were born five children who are now living---Mrs. W.Z. Mitchell and W.H. Downtain, of Lexington, Mrs. T.F. Keene, Townsend, Montana, Mrs. J.G. Horsman, Denver, Colorado, and John Downtain, of Oregon. There are seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
For the past fourteen years Mr. Downtain made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Mitchell. For several years he has been quite helpless, confined most of the time to his bed.
Mr. Downtain was one of the oldest men in the county. He was a good man and a good citizen, a member of the Christian church. His work was over and his race was run before he was called away.
The funeral took place from the home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. R.B Briney officiating. The pall bearers were Capt. J.P. Ardinger, W.G. Musgrove, George Hutchison, J.C. Kelly, J.G. Chinn and L.C. Yates.
