BATAVIA -- John J. Baldridge, 85, of Batavia, died at 9:35 a.m. Jan. 25, 1999, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1913, in Batavia to Milton and Emma Dorn Baldridge. He married Wilma Moore on April 11, 1942, in Princeton, Mo.

He was educated at Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs. He was previously employed at Boyt Harness Company in Des Moines. He moved back to Batavia in 1947, where he was employed by Dexter Company in Fairfield for 31 years before retiring in 1978.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Milton Baldridge of Fairfield; three daughters, Karen L. Baldridge of Batavia; Julie M. Durflinger of Fairfield; Nora S. Rupe of Ottumwa; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, John; a brother, Waldo; and a granddaughter.

The service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Kremer Funeral Home in Batavia, the Rev. David Albert officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery in Batavia.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Casket bearers will be Todd Baldridge, Troy Rupe, David Klyn, Matthew Gingerich, Vern Myers, Don Roberts, and Lohn Renfrew.

A memorial fund has been established.
