Ezekiel arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada aboard the ship "Mozart" with his older brother Peter and his younger brother Eli. They signed on in Liverpool on 25 April 1866.

They landed on the 28th of May, 1866.

Soon after arriving, they made their way to the Albion mines as they had heard the miners were making twenty pounds a month. They had worked at coal mining before they had set off to Canada.

In 1868, Ezekiel married Margaret Ann Hart. He started sheep farming on Green Hill, Pictou County. It is reported by his brother Peter, that the venture did not last long. The dogs killed his flock. After that he spent most of his years at coal mining.

It is said he was one of the last men that came up out of the Ford pit, which shaft he and his brother Eli commenced sinking in 1866.
