Mr. Ray Frisbee, age 70, of Marion, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 3, 2012 at The McDowell Hospital. Ray was born in McDowell County on August 24, 1942 to the late Columbus Frisbee and Minnie Allison "Big Mom" Frisbee. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather and truly loved spending time with his grandchildren fishing and camping. He also loved his Lord and devoted himself unselfishly to the Lord's work at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including Chairman of the Deacon Board, Treasurer, Sunday School teacher and formerly as the choir director. Ray was retired from Galey & Lord after serving there for more than 41 years. He also earned his accreditation as a Red Cross CPR instructor. Ray served his country during the Vietnam War era in the U. S. Army.
Saddened by this loss but rejoicing at his homegoing are his wife of 48 years, Marie Brooks Frisbee; his daughter, Teresa Frisbee Wise and her husband Michael of Dallas; a brother, Herman "Sonny" Frisbee of Gastonia; four sisters, Kathy Kirkland of Black Mountain, Hazel Catoe of Rock Hill, Mildred Edwards of Nebo and Alverta Bailey of Marion; three grandchildren, Ben, Jake and Elisabeth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Wood officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial with military rites will follow in the church cemetery.
