Lawyer, Judge, and Legal Pioneer of Western Judicial System. He was Secretary of Dakota Territory from 1883 to 1886, a Justice of the Colorado State Supreme Court from 1915 to 1935, and Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court from 1923 to 1925. As Secretary of Dakota Territory, he helped nogotiate the Agreement of 1883 with four bands of the Sioux Lakota Nation that defined certain Indian lands in what was then Dakota Territory. He was a younger brother of U. S. Senator Henry Moore Teller.
