Born in York, York County, he was a son of the late William Roy and Ocie Huskins Smart. He was a US Marines veteran, a member of Central Baptist Church and a construction worker for Beacon Construction Co., Rock Hill.
Survivors include one daughter, Tamara Ellen Smart, and one brother, Phillip Smart, both of York; one sister, Gay S. Copeland of Buffalo; and one grandchild.
