Pauline "Paula" Purcell of Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at James Square Nursing Home on Tuesday, September 11, 2012. She was born in Albany, NY, to Italian Immigrants Salvatore and Mary Rotella on August 29, 1922. Paula spent most of her life living in Syracuse with her husband, where they were members of the Mattydale VFW Post, where they had the joy of making lifelong friends. She resided in Fayetteville with her beloved son EJ and family before entering James Square Nursing Home, where she received quality care for which we are forever grateful. Paula was predeceased by her husband, Edwin "Pinky," in 1986 and her beloved daughter Roseanne in 2009. She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Richard) Sutton; son, Edward Sr. "EJ" (Brenda Dunn) Purcell; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, William "Bill" (Jodi) Supernault and their daughters, Aleyna and Julia; Melissa (Kenneth) Wurster; Edward Jr. (Amy) and their children, Alexander and Alyssa; Kristen (Eric) Purcell-Boye and their daughter, Everly; and Cassandra and Cady Purcell. Paula and Pinky always welcomed friends of their children into their home and consequently were considered the surrogate parents for many of the neighborhood teens. Funeral service will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, September 15 2012, at Holy Cross Church, DeWitt, NY. Calling hours will be Friday, September 14, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home, 3175 East Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13224.
