A case of destitution in Cobtown addition has come to the INDEPENDENT'S notice that should receive prompt attention. It is that of a family, the head of which has not been able to secure any work at all during the winter. The mother is sick to the point of death. There are five children, but death has relieved one of the little sufferers. Mrs. Frank Thorne has taken the matter in hand and any donation of provisions and clothing for the relief of this family will be properly dispensed.

Mrs. Johnson, the wife of the Cobtown family, mention of which is made in another column, died at an early hour this morning of typhoid fever, at the age of about 40 years. This is a very sad case. The husband is and has all winter been out of work and the family has evidently suffered considerable privation. Four little children yet remain, one having died last week. It is a case that not only deserves but demands assistance. Mrs. Thorne, Mrs. Nelson and other ladies of the neighborhood have interested themselves and will look after any donation of provisions or clothing. The maiden name of the deceased was Crofutt, her given name being unknown. She is supposed to have relations in Denver. Denver papers would confer a favor by copying.

The funeral of Mrs. Johnson, who died yesterday morning and mention of which particularly sad case was made in these columns yesterday, occurred this afternoon at three o'clock, the child being buried at the same time. The latter had preceded the mother but 24 hours and not several days as was stated yesterday. Mr. Dean contributed the use of his horses and hearse and a respectable burial was given to the departed.
