He was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and was a graduate of Fulton High School. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Art married Eunice M. Lyzenga on July 27, 1946 in Fulton, IL. He was first employed at Carstensen Freight Lines. He owned and operated Art"s Sinclair and later Art"s Auto Service. After retiring, he worked alongside his son-in-law on the farm. Art was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton, the church"s Men"s Brotherhood, and served as a deacon and elder. He was also a member of the American Legion " Fulton Post #402. Art enjoyed hunting, especially his trips to Wyoming. He liked to restore automobiles, enjoyed woodworking and taking care of his property.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice; one daughter, Sue (Dale) Sterenberg; one son, Tom (Carol) Balk; four grandchildren, Emalie Sterenberg, Brandy (Gene) Gonyier, Kristy Wolever, and Amber Benson; seven great-grandchildren, Ashton, Dillon, Austen and Dallis Gonyier; Serissa Wolever; Cosmo and Wyatt Benson; one great-great-granddaughter, Jayden Cook; two sisters, Joan (Kenneth) Matthew and Lois (Michael) Darrow.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
