Mrs. Charles (Mabel) Batten, 87, of 1503 11th St., Peru died at 2:33 p.m. Nov. 6 in Mendota Lutheran Home where she had been a patient for three months.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Peru, with the Rev. Douglas N. Jacobs officiating. Burial will be in Peru City Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru, and from 9 a.m. Thursday until the time of services in the church.
Mrs. Batten was born Jan. 21, 1908, in rural Peru, to Harry and Hattie (Fiedler) Cleer. She married Charles T. Batten on Oct. 7, 1928, in St. John's Lutheran Church. He died on Dec. 30, 1976.
She was educated at Pleasant Point School on Plank Road north of Peru and at L-P High School. She worked at C.A. Jensen Jewelers in La Salle from late 1930s until 1967.
Mrs. Batten was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church and belonged to the Altar Guild, Women of the E.L.C.A. (Esther Circle), and was a 50-year member of the Rebekah Lodge.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Charlene Smith of Peru: four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. George (Lyla) Schuetz of Peru.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Memorials may be directed to St. John's Lutheran Church.
