Henry W. Cleer, 76 of 2716 Fifth st., Peru, died at 5:56 p.m. Sunday in People's He had been ill for two weeks and bedfast for 10 days.
Born in Dimmick township, July 15, 1880, a son of the late Johm and Louise Schwab Cleer, he was educated in Dimmrick township schools and Brown's Business college.
He was married to Miss. Hattie E. Fiedler Oct 7, 1903, in Dimmrick township with the Rev. Paul Brauns, pastor of Zion E. and R. church, Peru officiating. Mrs. Cleer preceded him in death Feb. 21, 1956.
In March 1904, the Cleers moved to a farm near Spencer, Ia., and a year later moved to a farm northwest of Peru, where they resided for 43 years, before coming to Peru nine years ago.
Mr. Cleer was a member of St. John's Lutheran church, Peru, Mokena lodge, 100F and Lily lodge, Rebekahs.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Mabel) Batten and Mrs. Leo (Lyla) Gapen, both of Peru: two grandchildren, Mrs. Gilbert (Charlene) Smith and Gary Gapen and two great-grandchildren, Jill and Heidi Smith, all of Peru. Preceding him in death, in addition to his wife were his parents and a brother, Adam.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. John's Lutheran church, Peru. The pastor, the Rev. W.C. Liefeld, will officiate. Burial will be in Peru City cemetery.
Friends may call at the Ellias chapel, Peru, after 7:30 p.m. Monday and until noon Wednesday, when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until the time of service.
